<bio>

	Who is Amy Bladow?

One of two resident Cheeseheads at the Agency, I am originally from God’s Country, otherwise known as Wisconsin. I am a graduate of UW-Wisconsin with a degree in Graphic Design – GO BADGERS! My husband Dan and I moved to Indiana in 1987 for his job with DowAgrosciences. Since moving here, I have had some wonderful experiences working for a couple of advertising agencies in the area, a commercial photographer and then the printing industry. The majority of that time was as a sales service rep for a few printing companies. Then in 2009 I was privileged to have landed here at Notre Dame and AgencyND.

My role at the Agency has evolved from initially helping to schedule and run traffic internally to now focusing on client internal service support on projects and management of print production (guess two decades of print industry knowledge is hard to get out of your system).

On a personal side, we live in rural Walkerton with two daughters, Sage and Tess.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

Depends what day and time it is. I split most of my time between managing projects on the print end of our business and managing the print production of all our print projects. Basically, I am the nag who is always asking the designers, “How ya coming with that?” and coincidentally, saying the same thing to our print outsources. There is never a dull moment…

What do you do in your down time?

To unwind I like to go to the movies, flea markets and shopping. I am an avid HGTV fan…so, as time permits I can be found watching Design Star, House Hunters, Divine Design, etc. which then get me hyped up about what I want to do next in the house (much to Dan’s distaste).

I also enjoy chasing the girls to their various functions such as marching band, spell bowl, volleyball, musicals, etc. with Dan.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

As I kid I dreamed I would be working as a designer in New York City with a place overlooking Central Park. Crazy, I first visited New York City this past year…. how life gets in the way.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

	Connections, connections, connections…

My previous position was at Mossberg & Company, a printer in town. The University of Notre Dame was one of the accounts I serviced while there. One day I happened to get a call from an individual at the Agency stating that there was a Project Manager position open and I should check it out. I did, and the rest is history, as they say.

      <bio>

	Who is Dar Cutrona?

I am the youngest of five daughters who grew up on a farm outside Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have been married to my husband, Jim, for almost 27 years, and we are the parents of two sons, Vince and Louis. Though I am firmly grounded in northern Indiana, I like to wander away regularly to visit family and friends.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

I proofread content for print and web projects. I read for accuracy and consistency in an attempt to make every project as perfect as possible within a set deadline. Spelling, grammar, and style certainly will not be made into a reality TV show any time soon, but it is very cool to see a project come together after a team of professionals is let loose to create and craft something.

What do you do in your down time?

I get my younger son to his activities, many times now with him behind the wheel. I visit my older son at college. I take my beagle for walks in the woods. When I make the time, I run. Since I work half-days, I am stingy with my free time in order to keep my men well fed and our home livable.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I wanted to be a nurse, but changed my mind in high school after taking biology and gagging on the smell of specimens split open for dissection. It wasn’t the blood that got to me, it was the smells.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

Many years ago I worked as a full-time copy editor in the Publications and Graphic Services Office. After my first son was born, I took a long recess from full-time work to stay home to be a mom and manage our home. I did some teaching and freelance editing on the side, mostly as a way to meet some terrific people. Then, in the spring of 2010, I met Cynthia Maciejczyk who was looking for a part-time proofreader. And, today, here I am!

	Who is Don Schindler?

A chameleon. It’s actually a part of my Strengthsfinders 2.0 – I lead with Adaptability.

A former bartender. I learned invaluable lessons in customer service, specifically in the value of really listening to people.

A bubblehead or, in Navy jargon, a submariner. I served on the USS Woodrow Wilson SSBN 624. Although being a submariner isn’t for everyone, I believe everyone should serve, if not with the military, in some fashion.

A Hollywood news writer. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely you’ll ever read anything I wrote because the company is no more.

A hack flash designer and graphic artist. Maybe you’re a hack, too. How can you know for sure? Try to design a logo for someone other than yourself. Believe me, it will teach you a great deal about patience and tolerance, while also showing you just how difficult a designer’s job really is. Difficult.

A marketing copywriter. And, no, not a hack writer. I’m actually pretty good. Sometimes.

A customer service rep. Again, if you’ve never had to be on the receiving end of something that wasn’t your fault, never doubt just how rough the job really is. Rough.

A KFC employee of the month. Remember Chicken Littles? I’ll never forget them. Loved Chicken Littles!

A rugby player. I played inside and outside center, as well as some wing, but I had to give it up. Today, I help coach the official Notre Dame Rugby Club.

A Notre Dame graduate student. I have an M.F.A. English, Creative Writing.

A McNair scholarship winner. They still harass me about not getting a PhD. Someday, maybe.

A Product Marketing Manager/Marketing Director. It’s a weird, weird thing for me, but I really love marketing.

But, what matters most of all to me is that I’m a Christian, a husband, and a father of three. Still, all of the “stuff” that I did before—everything that I thought was just a bunch of random crap that kept happening to me—really helps me to do the best job for you.

	I’m the Director of AgencyND.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

I'm the Managing Director - I don't entirely know what that means but I hope I do a good job of giving all the credit to the incredibly talented group working here at the Agency and take all the blame when things don't work out as well as we hoped. I think that's what managers are supposed to do.

What do you do in your down time?

I really love hanging with my family. They are awesome. But on the side, I snowboard, ride my Harley, have started coaching rugby and, of course, working out. I hate running, though. Really, really hate it.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

Being Stephen King. I wanted to scare people with my writing.

	Who Is Erik Runyon?

Husband, father, and web-developer. Born and raised in small-town Michigan, I’m an across-the-board fan of Michigan sports (Detroit Lions, Tigers, Redwings, Wolverines), and hold out hope that the Lions will win a Super Bowl in my lifetime. Past jobs include audio designer for a computer game company and phone-bill/wall-border designer.

What do you do at AgencyND?

I build cool things using all the usual web-development acronyms. I’m obsessive when it comes to semantic mark-up, and believe all content should be both portable and accessible by any device. Some current projects include:

		ND.edu

What do you do in your down time?

Play with my three kids, put little trees in pots, read, and code (yes, I code in my downtime as well).

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

I applied, and for some reason, perhaps a lapse in judgement, AgencyND decided to hire a University of Michigan grad. I’m sure there are times they regret this.

      <bio>

	Who is Jeremy Friesen?

Part recluse and part old-school geek, I cut my teeth programming by dutifully transcribing monospaced computer code from a magazine onto our venerable Atari 64K. Ever focused on helping others, I enjoy using tools from my problem-solving tool belt as well as learning new ones. Sometimes I wish I had a cape, but not the kind that get caught in engine turbines nor the ones that are ironically hip. And maybe I'd like a mask too.

Since starting my programming career in 1998, I've worked on:

Proprietary insurance billing and collection software.

Document management systems for contracts, addendum, and other legal documents.

Health and life insurance quoting and renewal software. (mma-online.org)

		Database-driven e-commerce (cardcare.com, postycards.com)

Developing custom content management and legacy data integration (www1.ccs.k12.in.us)

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

Application development; I work on developing and maintaining the server-side element of various AgencyND applications (conductor.nd.edu, map.nd.edu, admissionschat.nd.edu).

What do you do in your down time?

I spend time with my wonderful wife, three children and step-daughter; listening to children playing, cleaning, gardening, practicing music, reading, drawing, writing, playing games and providing a taxi service. During "my time" I play pen and paper role-playing games with my friends...collaboratively narrating stories. I also enjoy blogging about my take on rules (as they apply to games).

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I dreamed I would build things with people. I was an avid Lego builder and collector. My friends and I would often collaboratively build and vicariously inhabit these tiny geometric worlds.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

By helping another AgencyND developer, Erik Runyon, fix a failing automated test. Prior to that, I was (and still am) a regular participant in a programming user group that had its first meetings in the "office", Grace 500, that I now work in.

      <bio>

	Who is Joe Lyphout?

I am someone who is always thirsty for more knowledge. Whether it is about client goals, trends in digital communications, how to value a company, or simply the latest news from ESPN. The more the better when it comes to learning. I guess that is why my Kolbe score came back as a fact finder! It's not uncommon to find me in the corner of Starbucks somewhere in town with my iPad or laptop fired up for hours on end.

I graduated from Notre Dame as an undergrad in 2000 and started working as a software developer in Fort Wayne, IN, before working my way back to Notre Dame. For fun, I have always enjoyed playing sports as much as watching them. When I have the time, I love to play soccer, tennis, volleyball, and cycle.

What do you do at AgencyND? What's so cool about that?

I spend a lot of my time consulting with my clients on how to achieve communications or marketing objectives. I ask a lot of strategic questions, get people to think more broadly, and help define an understanding of what success will look like for our clients. I then work with the AgencyND team to strategize on how to best meet client goals through aligning the appropriate tactics and services.

I am inquisitive by nature. This job allows me to ask questions and think through strategies and projects with clients. I enjoy taking a meeting from a discussion about doing a simple brochure to helping a client understand how that brochure should fit into a larger marketing and communications plan, then helping them come up with that plan.

What do you do in your down time?

Down time? What's that? I have heard the term used and vaguely remember something resembling it a long time ago. I am currently working on an Executive MBA at the Mendoza College of Business here at Notre Dame. Full-time work and full-time school does not lend itself to much down time.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

Many kids dream about really exciting or exotic careers—professional sports stars, fireman, astronaut, or the President. Not me. When I was asked as a kid what I wanted to do when I grew-up, I always said "businessman".

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

I have been a part of the Notre Dame community in way or another for over 26 years now. After graduation, I always figured I would come back and work for the University at some point in my career. That opportunity just happened to come much earlier than I had anticipated when I came across a job opening in the Office of Information Technology.

	8-5-4-3

What do you need to know from this? I am a high fact finder. I want to know as much as possible about something to make sure it's being done correctly the first time.

      <bio>

	Who is Kate Russell?

I’m a woman of many faces, all of which are wrinkled and usually smiling (you just can’t see it behind my scowl). In any single day, I can be:

The Enforcer—Mother of two, grandmother of one. I’m the mean person who tells kids they can’t do what they have already done. And the one who tells clients they shouldn’t do what they think they want to do. (In both cases, to be fair, I try to explain my reasons for being mean, but that doesn’t always mean people like my suggestions.)

The Examiner—As the information architect, I get to test our websites to make sure they work well and provide what the users need/want. I test for usability, accessibility (for those with different capabilities), consistency, and accuracy (to a point).

The Teacher—Whether it’s teaching Conductor (our proprietary content management system) or Web practices, one of the joys of my life is when someone “gets it” because I’ve explained some concept to them in a way that makes sense. I don’t even pretend to be an expert at most things in life, but sometimes I have these insights that help others do their jobs better.

My past lives have included living in Hutchinson, Kans.; Boulder, Colo.; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle, Wash. I now share a log home with my husband, two cats, a dog, umpteen wild turkeys, an occasional deer, raccoons and rabbits too numerous to count, and a family of bats (ugh, when they’re in my house), having kicked the children out long ago.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

As I mentioned above, I play the role of enforcer, examiner, and teacher. But mainly, if something needs to be done to help a client and I can do it or learn it, I’m there.

What do you do in your down time?

Down time? I just started a new career a few years ago! Who has down time?

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

Very few people know this, but I wanted to be:

a singer (Mom told me I’d never make it on stage)

a detective (I’m not very brave)

owner of a Presbyterian Playboy Club (this was before I was enlightened as to the social manifestations of women’s lib)

		an English professor

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

I hate to give my husband credit, but it was another of his great ideas. He works for AT&T and was headquartered here for years. He kept telling me how much I’d like it here; he was right.

      <bio>

	Who is Mike Roe?

No, I’m not the Dirty Jobs guy. He's Mike Rowe. Completely different. Still, as a writer, I rely on keyboards, which studies have found to be breeding grounds for E. coli and other enterobacterias. Despite the dangers, I’ve written long- and short-form copy, including thousands of taglines, for print, the Web, radio, and TV.

Since starting my writing career in Los Angeles in 1996, I’ve provided concepts and copy for:

Motion picture studios (movie poster taglines and theatrical trailers for 102 Dalmatians, Hell Boy and hundreds of other motion pictures and television shows)

Toy companies (packaging for The Simpsons and How to Train Your Dragon)

Vegas casinos (websites for Vdara and Aria)

Plastic surgeons (websites for Santa Rosa Plastic Surgery, Portland’s Key Laser Institute, and for tens of others)

Publishers (banner ads, print ads, Google AdWords campaigns, and book jackets for authors such as Ben Stein, Barton Biggs, Ken Fisher, and John Bogle)

In 2008, I provided a case study on writing SEO copy for Atlantic Publishing’s The Complete Guide to Writing Web-Based Advertising Copy to Get the Sale.

Oh, and I’m Writer/Editor at AgencyND, and a Scorpio. My Myers-Briggs personality type is INFP (Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, Perception).

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

Anything. But, mostly, I provide content/copy. Everything.

What do you do in your down time?

Write. Read the works of my favorite authors and writers (Kurt Vonnegut, Terry Southern, Frank O’Hara, Oscar Wilde, Joe Orton, Edward Albee, Sylvia Plath, and Rachel Fellman). Listen to The Smiths. Sit at coffee houses, writing, reading, and listening to music. I also love to “hit some thrift stores.” And by “hit,” I don’t me “knock-off,” but rather “shop at.” Finally, to take my mind off of writing, I like to make “art” pieces out of a combination of illustrations and text from old paperback books and LPs. Of course, I rarely have time for any of the above, as I’m usually doing whatever it is that my two French Bulldogs—former shelter/breeder dogs—demand of me.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I don’t have much memory of my childhood, but it probably involved a jet pack.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

Providentia. That, and a great deal of hard work, late nights, and networking. Mostly, though, because of a great deal of hard work, late nights, and networking by a good friend from my college days here at the University of Notre Dame.

	Who is Nick Johnson?

I am a professional communicator and marketer with a level of experience made startling by the fact that I look like I’m 19.

Since graduating from Goshen College, I have:

Worked as a reporter and columnist for a few newspapers, covering a variety of beats. Notable experiences include convincing a skydiving company to let me jump for free in return for a lengthy feature story, and extensively covering a factory shooting and its aftermath.

Managed marketing initiatives at a few Chambers of Commerce.

Managed a multi-million dollar marketing and ecommerce budget for a global manufacturer of leisure travel appliances. I traveled the world, made my company millions of dollars and learned the unwavering importance of truth, reality, and communication in the workplace.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

Web Project Manager. I have an opportunity to make this stable of thoroughbreds run quickly, efficiently, and in the right direction. Sure, there is the occasional bucked jockey, broken ankle, and subsequent euthanization… but these things happen. You should see Oak trimmed out in a saddle. Beautiful.

What do you do in your down time?

Rage feverishly against the dying of summer. I golf, kayak, grill, and play with my Collie-mutt in the yard until winter’s muck wrestles me back across the threshold. I spend November – March reading (non-fiction lately), cooking, and trying not to gain 20 pounds. I also happen to be a huge fan of lovingly pestering my wife, Anna, who is profoundly cooler than I.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

A power-hitting middle infielder appreciated by traditionalists as much for my slick glove work as my bat.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

More networking than a Chamber of Commerce business cocktail hour.

Kolbe A Index Results (What is the Kolbe A Index?)

Probably the opposite of what a Project Manager is supposed to be:

	9-3-5-2

Michael Jordan didn’t have a jump shot until he first lost a step off the dribble… then worked at it until he had the best. I entered the for-profit world a disorganized schmuck and saw that management cares not what my natural working tendencies are… they care about the work getting done.

So I learned one helluva of a jump shot. No one is a prisoner of their weaknesses.

      <bio>

	Who is Philip Zastrow?

I’m an Ohio boy who wandered into Northern Indiana with my wife one cold day. I come from an amazing family back home in Miamisburg, Ohio. I’ve been pushing pixels since I was 10 and making websites since high school.

Until coming to Notre Dame, my career was largely focused in the Dayton, Ohio area. While in college I worked for MeadWestvaco creating physical mock-ups of products, including the Five-Star brand of notebooks and folders. A couple of years after college I started working for Dayton Christian School System as a web designer. I’ve also worked for a few small companies in Dayton designing for everything print and web related.

What do you do at AgencyND?

I make the websites pretty. I push pixels in Photoshop and craft some fun CSS to make Notre Dame websites look great. As of April 2012, I’ve done most of the more recent designs including the new nd.edu design.

What do you do in your down time?

At this point, working on my 90 year old house and relaxing with my gorgeous wife, Robin. I try to sneak some time to read and write when I can.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I knew I wanted to get into web design pretty early on in high school. But before then it was probably a toss up between creating movie special effects or making new Lego models. Both of which, I’d probably still be up for doing someday.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

That’s one of the great mysteries of my life. I applied to AgencyND for the web designer position, they liked my work and hired me, then moved me and my wife up here from Southern Ohio.

	Who is Ryan Dunwiddie?

Born and raised in Indiana, I've always thought I would end up anywhere but Indiana. That has not been the case as I've bounced around within the state. Throughout my years I've learned to love the things around me. Currently I am enjoying our close proximity to Michigan and all the outdoor activities it offers. When I am not sitting at my computer, which isn't as much as I would like, I am out camping, skiing, or hanging out with family and friends.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

I'm a front end developer doing lots of different tasks from making sites responsive to Javascript to cutting Photoshop designs. This is cool because I get to work on a lot of different projects with a lot of awesome people.

What do you do in your down time?

Anything outdoors. Camping, hiking, biking, softball, fishing, or walking my dog, Dudley.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I've always loved the outdoors so becoming a park ranger was at the top of my long list of career choices.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

Continual learning. Before I graduated from college I was already trying to learn the next thing. That strategy has made me very versatile in my skill set.

	Who is Stephanie Tatay-Myers?

Well, I’ve made my living in the media for the past 10 years, specifically in radio, prior to becoming part of Agency ND. Fresh out of college I worked locally as the Promotions Director for U-93 and WZOW for a few years and put on many events such as Roof Sit and gave away lots of cool prizes like trips, cars and cash. Unfortunately I never got to win anything, but I did get to see a lot of free concerts and movies! I even had a radio segment about fashion each day. Such a tough life. Then I moved on to the “big” city of Indianapolis. I spent the last six years of my life in the Indy radio world working as an Administrative Assistant for the ESPN radio affiliate where I met a few Colts players (too bad I’m a Bears fan :)), got to ride in the pace car at the Indy Motor Speedway with the top down going over 100 mph. Also had the tough job of being a hostess for our suite at the Indianapolis 500 while mingling with Ashley Judd and Patrick Dempsey at the post party! After my ESPN days, I took on the challenging role of being the Operations Manager for the Hispanic Radio Stations in Indy. My favorite part of that gig was all the awesome food I got to eat. Que bueno! The language barrier was a bit of a drawback though. Then back in February my husband and I decided to move on back to South Bend with our new baby girl (she was nine months old at the time) to be closer to our families who live in the area. It's nice to have free babysitting. And being around the family isn’t so bad either.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

I coordinate everyone’s schedule—what they should be working on and making sure that it gets done “in a timely fashion”. What’s cool about that? The power of telling people what to do and having them actually do it! If only I had that kind of power at home.

What do you do in your down time?

I enjoy running (I know, I’m crazy like that) and reading horror novels. I’m addicted to Dateline Mysteries and The Dr. Oz Show. My favorite days of the year are Notre Dame football Saturdays- go Irish! I also work pretty hard at being Ava’s mommy. She really takes up all of my down time, but I love spending every spare minute I have with her. She helps me run faster. Toddlers don’t walk, they run everywhere!

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

I wanted to be a paleontologist. And then I realized I would have to work in the heat and the dirt. Not really my thing.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

When the decision was made that we were moving back to South Bend there was one place and one place only I wanted to work. They didn’t have any openings so I wound up at Notre Dame. Just kidding! It has always been a professional goal of mine to work at Notre Dame so here I am!

	Who is Tim Legge?

A Chicago-born lad who is now a Dad, as well as: a husband, son, brother, uncle, designer, director, domer, hoosier, veteran, catholic, ironman, coach, patriot, virgo, godparent, triathlete, marathoner, cyclist, tennis player, swimmer, runner, Bender, traveller, optimist, friend, colleague, competitor, volunteer, blogger, skier, hiker, photographer, and lover of chocolate.

What do you do at AgencyND? What’s so cool about that?

I direct the Print business as a player manager, which in itself is very cool because I get to have my hands in the creation of the work, as well as provide guidance at varying levels to a very talented, and award-winning group of creative people.

What do you do in your down time?

Take my kids on field trips, as well as swim, bike, and run as fast as I can—seeking new boundaries in all experiences.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

Fly airplanes, and ride my bicycle across the country. I’ve grown up and become rather grounded, so I’ve combined the two by racing on my bike in many states across the country from New York to Hawai’i.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

I first came to Notre Dame on a field trip as a design student at Indiana University. Part of this experience included a show and tell of our work to peers of each respective University. It was this event that would lead to an offer to extend my studies in design by pursuing an MFA here at Notre Dame. After completing my graduate work I was offered a design position in OIT, and a short time later, accepted a position in OPAC. Coming here for grad school, and staying here on staff was never part of my master plan, but for many reasons, it has proven to be a wonderful life.
