Nick Johnson

Who is Nick Johnson?

I am a professional communicator and marketer with a level of experience made startling by the fact that I look like I’m 19.

Since graduating from Goshen College, I have:

  • Worked as a reporter and columnist for a few newspapers, covering a variety of beats. Notable experiences include convincing a skydiving company to let me jump for free in return for a lengthy feature story, and extensively covering a factory shooting and its aftermath.
  • Managed marketing initiatives at a few Chambers of Commerce.
  • Managed a multi-million dollar marketing and ecommerce budget for a global manufacturer of leisure travel appliances. I traveled the world, made my company millions of dollars and learned the unwavering importance of truth, reality, and communication in the workplace.

What do you do at AgencyND?  What’s so cool about that?

Web Project Manager.  I have an opportunity to make this stable of thoroughbreds run quickly, efficiently, and in the right direction. Sure, there is the occasional bucked jockey, broken ankle, and subsequent euthanization… but these things happen. You should see Oak trimmed out in a saddle. Beautiful.

What do you do in your down time?

Rage feverishly against the dying of summer. I golf, kayak, grill, and play with my Collie-mutt in the yard until winter’s muck wrestles me back across the threshold. I spend November – March reading (non-fiction lately), cooking, and trying not to gain 20 pounds. I also happen to be a huge fan of lovingly pestering my wife, Anna, who is profoundly cooler than I.

What did you dream you would do when you were a kid?

A power-hitting middle infielder appreciated by traditionalists as much for my slick glove work as my bat.

How did it come about that you work at Notre Dame?

More networking than a Chamber of Commerce business cocktail hour.

Kolbe A Index Results (What is the Kolbe A Index?)

Probably the opposite of what a Project Manager is supposed to be:

9-3-5-2

Michael Jordan didn’t have a jump shot until he first lost a step off the dribble… then worked at it until he had the best. I entered the for-profit world a disorganized schmuck and saw that management cares not what my natural working tendencies are… they care about the work getting done.

So I learned one helluva of a jump shot. No one is a prisoner of their weaknesses.
